…. Humendous
The Giants locked up RH pitcher Matt Cain today, with a deal that makes him one of the highest paid pitchers in major league history. Cain almost c
ertainly would have gotten more if he had waited and tested the free agent waters next season, so even though the 6-year, $127.5 million dollar contract
is huge beyond imagining, it probably should be viewed as a team-friendly deal.
I’ll have more later….

Es war sicherlich interessant für mich, den Blog zu lesen. Danke dafür. Ich mag solche Themen und alles, was mit ihnen verbunden sind. Ich möchte bald mehr zu lesen.
Buying a pair of designer Jordan High Heels is a very intelligent decision. They are very worth our buying due to the super quality and their excellent design. You can find an inexpensive on-line Nike shoes supplier to purchase discount designer Jordan Heels For Women.

@E, who the hell is Martin Miller and what’s the MLPA? Do you mean Marvin Miller and the MLBPA? Also, I understand your frustration but the vitriol is so excessive I think it undermines your arguments somewhat. Just sayin’.
so, the 25th man is brett pill. interesting choice. interesting to watch the lineups over the first six weeks; lots of moving parts. and what is a dan otero? nice minor league k/bb ratio.
Having some fun at media and the sycophant’s expense. Not many of us here, but the fucking Giants fans websites are un-readable, the CSN twats are unwatchable, and the captive radio stations unlistenable. If you didn’t know better, you would think that that one world series and one post-season in eight years gave the sycophants and brown-nosers permission to turn the Bay Area into their own version of the Iron Curtain. Anyway enjoy the harshness; not for everybody http://wherehaveyougonejoe.com/public_html/article.php?story=20120403210949466
Again E great article, thanks.

regarding your posey worries…..in a year, either hector, joseph or susac, will be the full time catcher
so no fear
Giants roster:
There is a simple way for this team to get much improved. No way it will happen:
Brandon Belt awarded the full time first base job. Sorry Huff, you go to the bench and get some occasional time at 1B.
Brett Pill get sent to Fresno. Put at 2B. After 20-30 games, as soon as he is “serviceable”,. bring him up and give him the job. Between Crawford/Belt, they can protect a below average fielder, but his bat can’t be worse than any alternatives. Tooo bad he is 27, but even at that age, we may get 3-4 years our of him.
Burris/Theriot – trade one at first opportunity. Several teams are desperate for a serviceable SS/Utility infielder. A mid tier prospect is adequate.
Nate is OK at RF, but if he struggles, we can replace him.
I would split CF between Pagan/Blanco. After a few weeks, may the hot hand win. If Nate Struggles, swap them around.
Here is amy personal theory of prospect development. We know AGE MATTERS with prospects. We also know that “veterans” can accomplish more than their skill set by applying experience. To me, this explains why the best strategy with young potential stars (19-21 YO) is put them out there for a year or two, until they die, or become stars. The reason is at that age, their reflexes will help them overcome a lot and they will grow much faster than equivalent time in the minors. Stretch them while they are at their peak reflex period. Superstars are born in their very early twenties. A major part of this is they are playing early. I believe if WIlly Mays himself had been held back in the minors until 24-25, he would not have been a HoF at all. Not because of losing a few years, i don’t think the talent would have developed to the degree it did. The reason teams like the Royals/Twins develop so many young stars, is they stick them out there!
Sabes: I would stick Gary Brown out there THIS year. What do we have to lose, Angel Pagan????
pill is not a second baseman….he is a backup first baseman and a rt hand bat off the bench
Of course it’s common sense that playing the younger players will make or break them.
It’s also conventional wisdom that no GM wants to risk losing 100 games by playing rookies and unknowns. Shelling out the cash for older players and a coach who’ll play them no problem is an easier way to save face and save the job. ‘We have all these experienced players…it must have been bad luck! Next year will be better, you’ll see!’
Obviously, playing nothing but younger players isn’t the optimal method, but burying them on the depth chart because you bought some veteran isn’t going to help either.
Not sure if it’s necessarily a good or bad thing that the current Giants management only seems willing to go with the younger, non-pitcher players when they have no other alternative. Eventually they do, but at what cost?
I have to eat my words/attitude. The Giants made the right roster moves, it seems. If Bochy plays the best outfield, it may be Huff who sits on the bench. I still think Pill can be serviceable at second IF Belt and Crawford are playing. Lets see if they try this at all this year, they may if Burris starts stinking.
At worst, this should be a more exciting year to watch the team, even if the w/l record is not a good as we all want.
until nate can get himself right, huff is staying in left
there really isnt anything to complain about regarding this team…except zito, and theres no point….they cant dump him
I do think you are right to a large extent here – IMHO I think oftentimes AAAA players are made, not born. Ceiling may be a different issue, but once a player has proven himself in triple-A, I think the regression starts. You’re right, the growth of experience stops, and, I feel some players (Linden, Niekro) actually develop bad habits – unless they’re dolts (which is possible) they have no compelling reason to improve if they’re batting .325/35/100 in AAA. They don’t need to be consistent, because they can feast on AAA inconsistency. Whether it’s a good idea right now is arguable, but, I believe a Gary Brown would be a better player five years from now if he were currently starting.
And yes, a Posey should not be brought up because Bengie reaches a certain level of suckitude. This is a big flaw the Giants have had, though I am encouraged by the current roster.
no brainer…had to be done
second they traded wheeler this deal was written in stone
