…. No defense

Finally, after three solid starts by Lincecum, Sanchez and Cain, Zito gives us his standard, just good enough to lose routine. Ten seconds after the offense bails him out, Runzler follows up with a cover-your-eyes-awful inning, and the Giants start the season losing three of four to the hated Dodgers.

Sigh.

Well post,I think about it, that after four consecutive years of fighting a futile and mortifying battle in public culminating in my ouster from eventual World Series winning team for general choke-artistry, I would look at the millions I already had banked, and not even bat an eyelash at the millions yet to be paid.

  15. uncle joe mccarthy says:

    john,

    im sure you are busy

but its time for you to admit that defense matters

this is the worst giants defensive team in maybe 20 years

they are less than pathetic…and the record proves it

  16. Robert says:

John’s post will be relevant every time Zito’s spot comes up in the rotation. He won’t have to post again until Zito’s contract runs out.

    Fucking BRILLIANT!

  17. We’re gonna have to find some big ass slab of marble to carve Lincecum’s name on.

We’re gonna have to find some big ass slab of marble to carve Lincecum’s name on.

  19. El says:

    Miggy’s first-pitch swinging

At a pitch a foot inside and a foot off the ground.
    After two 4 pitch walks.

    Just horrible baseball.

  20. Robert says:

God damn it. Wearing Giants gear makes me look like a late coming poser now. Everybody was wearing a Giants cap on Thursday. In Monterey for god’s sake.
I am absolutely going to wear a Cleveland Indians cap today. They’ve got a better record anyway. God damn it.

  21. E says:

I just can’t imagine what I would think if I were in Zito’s shoes.

    Talk about some internal conflict.

I am pretty sure at the age of 32, knowing that I had enough screw-you money to last me the rest of my mortal life I would be gone.

The more I think about it, that after four consecutive years of fighting a futile and mortifying battle in public culminating in my ouster from eventual World Series winning team for general choke-artistry, I would look at the millions I already had banked, and not even bat an eyelash at the millions yet to be paid.

I wouldn’t have thought that at the age of 32 however. He’s still young enough and foolish enough to think the trade-off is worth it.

Nice legacy. “Barry Zito” “Financial Tumor”

  22. Robert says:

Screw the Dodgers and the beaters who hospitalized a fan in the parking lot on opening day.

  23. uncle joe mccarthy says:

    btw john

the giants outhomered the bums…6-1 in the series

how does that jibe with your belief that teams need the long ball to win?

    just curious

    • John says:

      Uncle Joe,

Did you notice the Giants expected record is 3-1 and the Dodgers, of course, is 1-3.

These things will even out over the course of a season. So far, the offense looks pretty damn good, and so does the pitching.

Let’s wait a month before we start decrying the state of affairs.

      • uncle joe mccarthy says:

i aint decrying anything…just pointing out the importance of d…even average d…which they only had in one game…the blowout

the bums are not gonna be a good team this year

        kershaw is their rotation

        they have no bench

their pen sux and that fat man is gonna implode…you could already see signs in the first series…he cannot get the fast ball by anyone, and the slider is a joke

giants played tight….but they gotta have good d….maybe not in the regular season…but we saw how important d is for the post

  24. uncle joe mccarthy says:

    john,

for some blasted reason, known only to the pumpkinheaded sage, a defensive move was not made in the 7th

the bums do not have a strong pen…ergo, the best offensive team does not need to be in the field

however, after the 7th, you must put out your best defensive team….and bochy left nate on the bench

does that fly ball go over nate’s head? i think not

would runzler had pitched differently with no men on base? i think so

in their rush to get belt to the bigs…the brain trust made one significant error…the kid has basically only played at first his entire pro career

this despite the knowledge that he has the quickness, arm and smarts to play in a corner of position

had he been sent to fresno, he couldve spent a month or two, splitting time between first and the of

    now…that really isnt an option

so without ross…they are in a pickle

even when ross comes back..they are in a pickle

cuz by the looks of this d…losing nate, will be a huge blow

let us be honest…huff and burrell are here for their bats

bats will get you to the post….pitching and d win get you deep into the post

miggs is still a caribean hacker…its hilarious

the dodgers, if they dont go bankrupt first, are gonna implode sometime near midseason….that pen is a joke, and that fat man is not gonna be able to impersonate a closer for much longer….he cannot get pitches by anyone, and crawls up into a shell after giving up big knocks

i knew it was gonna be hard for the team to start on the road…especially at la and sd

hey, it is what it is

what i do like, is that they now have the offense to get back into games like this….makes things fun

    • Crazy – Dodgers walk three (including walking in a run) and Miggy’s first-pitch swinging. Does Bochy not have a ‘take’ sign? And can we afford two unreconstructed hackers in the lineup – Miggy and Panda? Didn’t work last year when it was first Panda and Bengie, then Panda and Uribe. One dude who absolutely will never ever never work a walk in you lineup is survivable. Not two.

      • only four games, but
        tejada 17ab 2r 4h 0bb 0Ks 1xbh(2b)

        sandoval 12ab 2r 4h 0bb 4Ks 1xbh(hr)

while the rookie has four walks in 17 appearances.

        • Gman says:

It certainly was an ugly loss to S.D. I continue to wonder about Sherholtz playin’ right, Huff at first, and Belt in Fresno. Everything about the ugliness is pretty evident.
          GO GIANTS!!!
