…. Sanity?

Apparently, the Giants brain trust is actually exhibiting something resembling sanity. I just saw that the Giants were gonna swap Cain and Sanchez, allowing Cain to start Game Three (on I’m guessing four days rest?) at home, and having Sanchez pitch on his normal rest?

….There’s not much difference between Cain and Sanchez when it comes to who pitches better on longer rest, but Cain will wind up with 10 days off between appearances, double the norm. Sanchez will have six days of rest.

So, it appears it is simply a move to split up the lefty-righty starters, which (actually) makes sense. Anything you can do to derail the Phillies offense, which is outstanding.

Here’s Baggardly, for what it’s worth:

…. Plenty of reasons why this makes sense:

– Sanchez, not Cain will have to deal with Citizen’s Bank Ballpark, which is kind of a bandbox. The Phillies hit 94 homers at home this year, compared to 72 on the road…and Cain is slightly more of a flyball pitcher than Sanchez.

— Sanchez has been flat out better the last few weeks. He was 4-1 with a 1.01 ERA in Sept/Oct, compared to Cain’s 3-1, 3.29. Sanchez also struck out 11 and gave up just two hits over 7 1/3 in a 3-2 Game 3 win in Atlanta (although Cain was very good in Game 2, as well).

— Bochy’s also mentioned that he wanted to “break up the righties.”

— Sanchez won in Philly in August, allowing one earned and two hits over eight innings.

I’m trying to arrange to go to one of the games. At the moment, it looks like the Wednesday game would be the most likely, but, until I get to the weekend, I really can’t say. Anybody who has an idea where I might get some good seats for me and one friend for any one of these three games, send me an email or a comment. I’d appreciate it. :-)

When it comes to snapback hat, OBEY snapback hats are very familiar to us because of its famous brand. There are many hat stores which sell OBEY snapback hat, such as red&blue hat, which is very popular. If you are a OBEY snapback hats fan, it is very convenient for you to enjoy your shopping. OBEY snapback hats are a kind of sun hats, which can protect our eyes, our face skin from the hot sun. Enjoy the sunshine, enjoy the famous brand name, you are the outstanding one.

Not a fan of Rowand making this roster, I think given that we will need every run possible I would have liked to bring a base stealer like Velez or Ford for late inning situations. This is Bochy though so he will take as little risk as possible so I can’t say I’m surprised. I don’t think it’s a series threatening move, but speed off the bench would have been a nice plus considering Rowand goes back to being useless now that we’re not playing Atlanta, the one team he managed to own.

How is stubhub different from scalping? Do the Giants get a cut or something?

    Good luck everybody.

Gets so quiet when someone actually wants tickets…

    • JPT says:

Ha. Imagine how entertaining an OBM field trip to a game would be. That said, if I ever somehow had tickets sufficient for a group trip, [most] everyone here would be at the top of the list. A very deserving crowd indeed. And a win for our world which often needs and calls out for more realism and cynicism!

  8. JPT says:

Although it’s a distant concern, what are people’s quick expectations for the ALCS? It would be nice to see Cliff Lee pitch twice in this series. Just 18 unintentional walks this season…Lee is a master.

OK, sorry, back to business. Go Giants!

Also, tickets to Gms 1 & 2 in Philly are going between $220 and $300. Am guessing that’s at least comparable to ticket prices at AT&T. Gm 1 may be better suited for watching on TV rather than upper level at the game, just because you can see the pitches better on TV, which means something given this pitching matchup. Oh, and the Philadelphia fans are exactly as miserable to be around as everyone says. No exaggeration there.

Note that Gerry Davis is the ump for Game 1. Anyone know his strike zone tendencies? Both Halliday and Lincecum hit the corners, but I suspect a narrower zone favors Lincecum over Halliday. Halliday lives on pinpoint corner control and making him hit more of the plate would be good for the Giants. I think with Lincecums motion, a narrower zone will affect him less.

    • Robert says:

Gerry Davis is going to be crew chief for the Rangers-Yankees ALCS, not the Giants-Phillies NLCS.

For the NLCS the umpire crew chief will be Derryl Cousins, his crew will be Tom Hallion, Wally Bell, Ted Barrett, Jeff Nelson and Dan Iassogna. All of these umpires fall into the middle of the pack as far as strike zone size rating goes. Hallion has the largest of the group

Gerry Davis, on the other hand, has the smallest strike zone rating of all the umpires in MLB.

Based on a 2007 analysis by Jonathan Hale in The Hardball Times

The pitching tweak, what a good idea! Gee, I wonder if anyone else out there would of thought of it ????

good seats now? sro are going for 100 bux…go to stubhub and see whats up

or maybe someone on craiglist is dealing…but it wont be cheap

why not just head over to one of the local pubs…big screen tvs…maybe they will even be using the knbr feed with that software that syncs tv and radio so you arent forced to listen to mccrappy and buck

why miller cant be switched to the nl when the giants play bugs me

they have to find a better way to schedule the post season….this long layoff is not good for the hitters, or the pen….it benefits the starters greatly….there could be a blowout in one of the games, but i dont think so….game one could very well be a rehash of game 1 in the lds

    • +mia says:

Yeah, but its good for Selig’s wallet.

Turn off the sound on the TV. Seriously. They don’t announce anymore anyway. Its two fucking stooges talking to each other who happen to be at a ballgame like it was Open-mike night at the high-school audio visual department. Let me put it this way. Pick any two, I don’t care who, and imagine one them on either side of you during an actual game. You wouldn’t last 3 innings before capping them both.

See thats the difference between you and me.

I wouldn’t even last 1/3 of an inning.

Before the Madison Ave types convinced Selig, that baseball fans were as ignorant as football fans and decided to add a “color” guy in the booth, it was somewhat tolerable. Especially if it was a guy like Bob Prince, Jack Buck, or Vin Scully for the post-season. Guys who demonstrated they were acutely aware that viewers could see the game, had probably progressed beyond grade school, and had seen at least 8 innings of Big League ball somewhere along the line.

Broadcasters who worked with, not against, the fact that the scoreboard and the count were on the screen, not trying to explain the importance of scoring runs and winning innings or explaining over and over and over why it was important to throw strikes.

A guy like Scully, and Simmons and Jack Buck realized all those things, expecting that the fans did too, and so confined themselves to conversing with the viewer, weaving relevant stories in and out of the game-call, not lecturing them like some fucking little league coach bossing around a collection of bedwetting T-ballers.

Listening to Tim McCarver or Tom Thumb or Eric Karros or some other douche like they were sitting in a raquetball club watching a bridge tournament during the post-season is too much. I can’t believe that even after all these years McCarver still doesn’t know the fucking difference between irony and coincidence.

“I found a quarter in my right pocket this morning Joe, and ironically I found one in my left pocket too.”

And he wasn’t even that good of a catcher.

Kill your fucking television. Or at least the audio portion of it.

    • John says:

Ummmm…. Uncle Joe…. For the right night, right seats, I’d spend a couple of bucks. I would expect to pay around $250 per for decent club levels, probably even $350. Anyone have any ideas, let me know.

I am contacting some of my loyal ticket sellers, but it doesn’t look promising so far.

      • uncle joe mccarthy says:

well, good to see that someone is doing well in this depression

interesting that bochy still thinks that rowand is an essential part of the team….i still wouldve looked for more team speed

also interesting that he is sticking with mota, rather than get the extra lefty with runzler
