…. Pretender?

Or contender?

Suddenly one game out of first place, (two games back in the all important loss column), the Giants have dusted off memories of Brian Johnson, evoked images of championship contenders past, and put a spark into the minds of the children in San Francisco. ;-)

Seriously, the Giants find themselves in this position thanks to a losing streak of historic proportions by the first-place Padres. It’s not like the team has been surging into contention by winning game after game. As nice as it was to see Juan Uribe blast the Giants past the hated Dodgers, it’s important to remember that the Giants have won 7 of their last 12 games. That’s a nice result, but hardly the stuff of legend.

Last night’s win against the D’backs was great, but tonight, Lincecum has got to continue his resurgence. This team has no real chance in the playoffs without a dominant two-time Cy Young winner.

UPDATE: Well, that was just what the doctor ordered. Timmy looked like he might have a no-hitter in his bag of tricks, showing dominant stuff, locating all of his pitches, which had to give the entire Giants nation a collective sigh of relief. I know I felt it.

What a shame to head into the SD series 2 games back after tonight.

Following the 9th inning Guillen 2B, Renteria, Uribe and Ross followed with three of the most unprofessional at-bats one could imagine. Renteria takes a called strike on the outer half on the 3 & 1 pitch and then swings wildly on a 3 & 2 slider well off the plate. Poor, predictable Renteria.

Despite a “respectable” showing and little run support, how about a Fuck You to Barry Zito for giving up anything to this sad Arizona club. And a Fuck You to the Dodgers for totally quitting and rolling over with three losses against reeling San Diego. Real professional. Guess Torre & Co. just want to hurt SF.

I’m always up for a FU to the Dodgers.

did the at bats suck? yes they did

but did you notice that once guillen was on base, the pitcher paid him no mind?

yes, there was a 2 run differential…but still, a pitcher, even a closer, should worry about a guy on second

guillen was no threat to steal, or even score on a single

that situation screamed for a pinch runner

put some pressure on the pitcher, and maybe he throws a mistake

bochy is in love with guillen

    Not So Fucking Fast

This seems to be the only Giants website with any sense or reality or perspective on the past fucking performances of Bochy, Zito, Sabean and Company since last year.

Hearkening back to those days of yesteryear, on September the Eighth in the year Two Thousand 0h Nine, the Giants like this years team on the same date had played 139 out of 162 games…23 games left. On those dates this is what you had.

2009 76-63, 554 runs scored 513 runs allowed. 6.5 games behind LAD in NL West with 5th best record in the NL and 3 games behind WC winner Colorado.
2010 78-61, 611 runs scored 535 runs allowed. 1.0 games behind SD in NL West with 5th best record in the NL and 1 game back of WC leader Atlanta.

On Sept 7th, Brad Penny pitched a 2-0 shutout against the Padres.

On Sept 8th Madison Baumgarner made his first major league start and held the Padres to 3 runs over 5.2 innings. Giants castoff Kevin Correia held the Giants to 3 in 6 innings. Afleldt gave up a run in the 8th and Heath Bell made it stand up.

On Sept 9th Barry Zito gave up 3 runs in three innings to the Padres. The last place Padres. Who finished 12 games under .500 with the 22nd worst record in MLB. At fucking PacBell Park. In September. In the most important game of the year to that point with Lincecum on the shelf because of a back injury. For $18 Fucking Million Dollars per year, when his team needed him most…again, in the last fucking month of the season he gave up 3 fucking cheesy runs to one of the worst fucking teams in baseball in three fucking innings to start the downward slide.

On September the 10th against the Dodgers Cain taking his cue from Fearless Fosdick Pooh-arm, gave up 4 runs in 6 innings while the Giants sent exactly 3 men over the minimium in the same six innings scratching out a run in the second. Following that was Merkin Valdez, yet another in a long line of Dominican dipshits, with a 100 dollar arm and 10 cent brain to giver up the ghost in the 7th by allowing 4 runs without an out. After 1.1 stellar fucking innings of an era of 20.0 with Toronto this April, Mr. Valdez is like so many of his pitches hit into the night…Long Gone. As was the game’s final score 9-3

Jonathan Sanchez, never the most stable of characters, even for a Jack Kerouac novel finished up the hat trick plus one by presiding over a 10-1 cluster fuck by the Dodgers. Getting reamed by the loathsome Vicente Padilla in the process was just jalapeno sauce on a cold sore.

Sorry if I don’t share the enthusiasm.

      well,

tonite, assisted by an ump with an amazingly pliable k-zone, zito pitched solidly, if not spectacularly

problem is, the giants, as has been their issue for awhile, could not figure out the rook, hudson.

i do love how consistent bochy has been since he started managing…give him a vet, and that guy is sure to play

i take it that orders from on high came down and rowand is not to see action in any case…but sabean did bochy a favor and made sure that ross was there to take up the ofer slack

loved the late innings tonite…panda gets a solid single…bochy sends in ford to pinch run….he steals, but it doesnt matter…nobody can get him in

then, because panda (the new fat ass on the team) isnt in there, after guillen hits a double (that wouldve been a single if drew remembered that guillen cant run) up come rentawreck, who has taken panda’s spot…lo and behold…he chokes….but there is a good reason

guillen cant run…no threat to steal, no threat to score on a single….so pitcher doesnt have to worry about keeping him close…just has to focus on the hitter

lo and behold…giants cannot plate a run with man on second and no one out…game over

baggs is right…bochy isnt stupid…he is just stubborn

      i will say it again…giants must win 3 of 4 this weekend….

coming out of sd tied or 3 games behind, and while they still may be mathematically in it…they are pretty much done

and the rox inch closer and closer

      • +mia says:

baggs is right…bochy isnt stupid…he is just stubborn

No offense Unca Joe, but he is called Baggs for a reason; mainly because his chin is nothing but a buffet-sized resting place for Bochy, Baer’s Neukom and Sabean’s nutsacks. His little transparent homily to Bochy’s so-called veteran calmness is yet another of his crayon-created infomercials for the front office. He strikes me as little more than the Robert Duvall character, Max Mercy, the slimy reporter from “The Natural” who was always running around trying to get dirt on players, and starting rumors. His little “Ode to Bruce” was some of the most vacuous, sophistry shit yet written on the man from Boulderskull.

I’d include a link, but I don’t want to ruin anybody’s breakfast this morning. If you must avail yourself of the superciliousness of this twat’s scribblings, its from his sept. 7th entry following Lincecum’s game. Among one of the stupider things he gives Bochy credit for is chewing Lincecum’s ass out, as the primary reason for his “resurgence.”

Gawd what a fucking junk-sucking slimewad his writing is.

  3. Robert says:

The last few weeks, as the Padres have been sliding horribly, with all the opportunities that the Giants have blown, it’s been like watching someone trying, unsuccessfully, to parallel park.

  4. Peter G says:

Did someone ask for Lincecum to return to form?

  5. 4holebat says:

Even with Lincecum showing signs of life again, the race for a playoff spot will come down to whether the Giants can score any runs against the Padres pitchers, and take at least 2 of 4 in the next series. If they can’t beat the teams that they are chasing for a playoff spot head to head (Padres, Phillies, Cards, Braves) then they don’t really deserve to be there in the first place. Not being able to beat the Padres would be like backing into a playoff spot, if they somehow made it in.

  6. uncle joe mccarthy says:

timmy needs to rethink his off season training regimen

he definitely tired by the 7th

and the org needs to put him on a hard pitch count to finish the season

but he did look good through the first 6

of course, he was facing a mostly aaaa lineup

oh…and dont look now, but the rox are starting another late season surge

    • ScottS says:

      Unc Joe,

Been Saying for two weeks now…the Rocks are the team to beat.

A win today…and at least a split from the Pads…and they’re done. Don’t be surprised in Wild Card comes out of West. Braves and Phils play each other six more times. Should know one of them out. Gigantes have softer schedule 12 games remaining against the Brew Crew, Dodgers, Cubs, and D-backs.

      It’s still ours to lose.

Zito tonight…God help us. Maybe he can go six and not give up more than 3 runs….A big maybe.

      • ScottS says:

Pardon the grammar and typo’s on last post. Rushing to the airport….did not proof.

Here’s to Zito pulling one out of the hat for us tonight.

      • uncle joe mccarthy says:

i have no faith at all in zito

if the giants do happen to make the post, he has to left off of the lds roster…despite hi playoff experience

he has fallen back into his old habits

not counting the friars out….black is a good manager, and this series against the bums is bringing back their confidence

and i think the giants must win 3 of 4 against them

i do like that its shaping up to be an exciting final week of regular play
