…. Letdown

Once again, the Giants come up one run short of the Padres. Let’s see, who were the goats in this disgrace of a game…..

Jonathan Sanchez, who gift-wrapped two runs for the Padres in the top of the second, about ten seconds after the Giants ignited the crowd and took a two-run lead in the bottom of the first. Oh, and then failing to get down a bunt with runners at first and second and no out. Oh, and then allowing the Padres to score the go-ahead run with a double and a single on two pipeline, batting practice pitches to start the top of the sixth.

Pablo Sandoval, continuing his season-long exodus into flail-town. Here’s an idea…. Swing at strikes.

Bochy, allowing Freddie Sanchez to continue his season-long effort to kill the team. Here’s an idea…. Bench the worst regular in the lineup.

Aaron Rowand, for inexplicably running off second base right after Sanchez fucked up his bunt attempt, getting picked off and essentially ending a first and second, no out situation in three fucking seconds.

That is a buzz kill of a game. Fuck the Padres.

If I were the Giants, I’d be hitting somebody tomorrow.

UPDATE: What has to happen for Bochy to bench Sanchez? Sanchez is 22 for 106 since the All Star break, running out a .216/.277/.265 .542 OPS line, with just three extra base hits. During that time, he has scored 6 runs from the #2 slot while the Giants have posted their best offensive numbers in five years. By comparison, even with Sanchez doing everything he can to kill the team, Andres Torres has scored 20 runs, running out an outstanding .316/.370/.547 .917 OPS line, with 18 extra base hits. Put another way, Torres has almost as many extra base hits as Sanchez has hits.

Either he needs to be benched, or he needs to be dropped down in the lineup. Ideally, he needs to be sent down, but that’ll never happen. Sit him down.

UPDATE, Part II: Fontenot replaces Sanchez and goes 2 for 5, with a double, essentially making me look like Nostradamus.

No quotes after the game from Jonathan Sanchez? Guess he was in ths showers trying to wash all the egg off of his face after his bold prediction. Hope he learned his lesson to keep his big mouth shut and let good pitching do all the talking, that is whenever he does pitch good. I suppose if the Giants fall short of the playoffs this year, than perhaps Jonathan Sanchez is on the trading block again? Agree with +mia that Dunn would have looked better in the lineup than J. Sanchez does.

Well, I don’t feel letdown. I’m neither excited nor depressed by this collection. Bochy is Bochy. Sabean is Sabean. San Diego has built a $100 million team with $40 Million, and the Giants have built a $40 Million team with $100 Million. Even with the win today, they’re 4 wins behind San Diego in the loss column…which is the one you watch.

Lincecum is a mess. Rowand is still getting far too much playing time as is Sanchez. That’s on Bochy. Huff is like 5 for his last 40, and to expect a rookie catcher and Pat Burrell to carry this collection with the handicap that Bochy puts on it with his lineup composition is expecting a lot.

Any manager that has Wayne Franklin on the mount at the end of the most important game of the season to day deserves to get fired.
Any manager that has Aaron Rowand starting and playing the type of game he played last night (which is not unexpected..given he has problems counting to one) much less ending a game at the plate in the most important game of the season deserves to get fired too.

I still would rather have Adam Dunn’s bat 5 times per game for 5 games rather than 5 innings from Jonathan Sanchez every 5 days. And I think by the end of the season, that there is a distinct possibility that a lot of crushed Giants fans who got their expectations up falsely, in spite of Sabean’s and Bochy’s continued long-standing adherence to old dog tricks, will see things that way too in retrospect.

The Giants simply do not hit well enough throughout the order to be serious post-season contenders at this point; they’re simply too unbalanced to be consistent on offense. And if its anything good baseball encompasses, it is rhythm and consistency. It does no good to follow up an Andres Torres with a pathetic Freddie Sanchez; a hot Burrell with a Sandoval, or a Uribe with a Rowand.

The Padres aren’t much better, but they play fundamental baseball better, and play more balanced up and down their lineup and simply seem to have a hex on the Giants that way. They execute, the Giants don’t. Last year it was Los Angeles that ate their lunch along with. The Giants are on pace for 92 wins, a two-game swing better than last year’s 88. San Diego is on pace for 96 wins.

We’ll see in September who’s real and who isn’t.

All the whining, crying, pleading, arguing, armchair coaching we all do on this board, which is fun by the way, doesn’t mean a fk’n thing…becuase our success all boils down to one thing this year….not Sabean, not Bochy, not the hitting, not the pitching, not F. Sanchez, not Rowand….its ownage on the part of the Padres…they own us…..if we dont turn that around, the rest of this is all bullshit….9 more games to make a difference, otherwise we’re fk’d…..

  4. Sanchez and Rowand should not be everyday players. They shouldn’t ever be penciled in for the starting lineup, for that matter. Jose Guillen shouldn’t either. Ishikawa should be starting 1B, with Huff Torres and Burrell in the OF.

  5. uncle joe mccarthy says:

    and eff the spam pingbacks

good idea bringing guillen into this mix

this team was not prepared to play tonite….all on bochy

sanchez cannot be in the two spot

if guillen is the second coming, then rowand should not get a start the rest of the season….when guillen isnt playing, ti needs to be at first

but i have a feeling gullien isnt the second coming….more like sanchez part deux

this is the same guy mike scioscia (the manager who loves all his players) couldnt wait to get rid of

message to the durty one….you dont make predictions in baseball…it angers the gods…and the gods were very angry with you and the team tonite

panda better lose weight in the offseason

and im sick of hearing people say the friars are gonna fade….they have been for real since june…they will not fade,…and they have a much easier stretch run than do the giants

i do hope someone asks rowand what he was thinking…im sure he missed a sign…but it was pretty retarded
