as usual, I find +mia very funny though a bit too histrionic, and also as usual, I find +mia to be right. The second post re: the Microsoft amusement park, the first two paragraphs say it all. What ownership wants is what Sabean is delivering - a nice, safe, profitable entertainment entity. Explains Bochy a lot - my problem is not that he's bad, but that he's boring - which can explain most of the roster as well. I'm not endorsing either in any way, but a Bobby Valentine or a Larry Bowa as manager would give management a stroke - too chancy, too much risk.

I know actually reaching the playoffs is a big payoff, but theoretically being in contention is allegedly the biggest one. I would not be at all surprised if "being eliminated with one week left in the season" is exactly the goal. That means look forward to 85-90 wins from now on. Nothing more, nothing less.

I agree the whole thing is disgusting. I quote myself from October 10.

[Sabean] throws Carney Lansford under the bus for the team’s “free swinging” tendencies, conveniently forgetting that four of the five players with the most at bats this year are all over thirty years old with a combined 49 years of professional ball under their belts. How coach-able is a 12 year veteran? Not to mention that he is the one that signed these relics and that their tendencies were documented in painstaking detail throughout their careers. This attempt to shift blame for his failures onto his subordinate is particularly repulsive.

Will the Thrill played college ball, played in the college world series. 'Coming up' in the Giants farm system consisted of playing 65 games in A ball in 1985 and 6 games of AAA in 1986. He already knew how to play baseball. How did the Giants manage to get Clark? They used the draft. The current GM uses draft picks like drink chips, trading them for 'known veteran talent'. He doesn't feel comfortable with 'prospects'. We've all seen his record.

To rebuild the team using the draft and bringing up players through the farm system, as Neukom has stated is his intention, Neukom has selected Brian Sabean; a man with no idea, no system, and no inclination. He is the wrong man for the job.

There is an interesting article by Dave Studeman in the Hardball Times from back in 2004 that reveals a lot about the possible thought processes and analysis that keeps Sabean employed.

If you read it and think about it in context of the time it was written it sounds plausible. If the article is accurate it describes nothing more than a hit and miss business model, which goes a long way to explaining why Sabean's track record sucks and how he can continue to fool the owners. He probably gives a PowerPoint presentation to explain his methods. It is painfully obvious that he doesn't evaluate talent in any way that resembles modern practices.

Its simple to understand actually, though not easy. Think of Microsoft running an amusement park and the players as well-paid circus acts, and the field support personnel as underpaid exempt employees.

You have the perfect management team in place. Nuekom and Baer as company officers setting policy, Staff Management of Sabean and his minions developing the strategy and logistics to implement that policy and Bochy and his collection of tools tactically carrying out the daily operations of that strategy.

Another way to put it is the Giants management is like watching a Senate subcommittee hearing. You're bored to shit by the miniutiae and language parsing, but in the end it is all part of the plan to empty your wallet, vacuum your brain, and crush your soul.

Other than Panda and Lincecum, there really is not a whole lot to turn the tv on about...much less indulge in person, in overpriced seating, parking, food, drink, and shitbag souvenirs more suited for Fisherman's Wharf and Goodwill Industries.

Fuck it Man. There are some really good teams with compelling story lines and interesting players to follow...not the least of which are the Twins, Yankees, Phillies, and Angels. I am not neccessarily rooting for them, but they are compelling, interesting teams with interesting players and they have upside for real, not the press release kind.

The bitter thing is this. It was Bochy that made the call. Bochy and Lansford came into MLB as players in the same year 1978. Bochy was a fill in, sub .700 OPS catcher known by few, remembered by nobody while accomplishing nothing as a player.

Lansford spent his A's career playing in LCS and World Series including just under 200 post season plate appearances, making good money, and getting semi-famous and even winning a batting title.

Lansford demanded accountability and was undercut by Bochy's roster favoritism and slavish and batshit blind compulsive overuse of useless and unmotivated veterans.

The only thing Bochy demanded of chodes like Rowand, Zito, Renteria, Aurilia, Howry, Molina, Winn was a little less glass in the vaseline jar.

As John points out, not only are the Giants front office group a collection of shysters, chintzters, and finaglers, they are gutless and classless as well as clueless.

A fucking pox on them. And people wonder why players hate, loathe, and despise management. And why players will do anything and everything to look after their own personal interest? You know why?

Because in spite of what Baers' asskissers at SFGate and the rest of the Bay Area media tell fans, the owners by and large are people who play out the Carney Lansford scenario on a daily basis. Sue and Harlan Burns were the exception. And they are gone.

I was not exaggerating when I said that for anybody to expect the mouthpiece for Microsloth to be anything but an absolute paragon of what corporate pricks are, was blowing sunshine up their own ass.
