just gotta say....

The Mitchell Report is so incredibly anticlimactic it's unbelievable. What struck me over here was all of John's references to columnists beating their chests, while the report, at best, just says "who knows?" about anybody. I saw the list through Yahoo or wherever of "players named" and my first thought was that I had skipped over some of the article! I just saw Glenallen Hill mentioned in an article - well, thank god that scourge has been outed. This'll keep him outta the Hall.

It's so unbelievably dumb... once again, a huge amount of time and effort comes up with little. "well, my uncle's cousin thinks he heard a guy he works with say that David Bell said steroids, once...mighta been hemmorhoids, he doesn't really remember, but he did say he had some kinda cream!". Sheesh.

And in response to yesterday's column, of course it's because Bonds is black and unapologetic - if he had not been breaking a record and had been tomming it, no-one would care about any of this. Racism is alive and well.

Really, John, I think you missed one of the best quotes, from this <a href="http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/12/14/steroid.report/index.html?eref=rss_topstories" title="CNN article" rel="nofollow"> story.</a>

"I urge those in the public spotlight, particularly athletes, to understand that when they violate their bodies they're sending a terrible signal to America's young." - George W. Bush.

You mean, Mr. President, because violating your body with narcotics and alcohol will probably prevent you from doing well in life? Yeah, you are the role model for that. (As a side note, I'm a fairly politically conservative person, who voted for Bush, but even *I* take exception to that remark, coming from him.) The posturing by anybody in the public eye is just disgusting.

If anything this report will point out how useful steroids have been for prolonging careers of players, helping them recover from injuries quicker, and possibly even perform better in the short term. Why doesn't MLB fund a study to see if actually prescribing regimented steroid treatments might actually be helpful to people who run their bodies into the ground the way professional athletes do during the season? Heck, what this report really proves is that fans actually GO TO MORE GAMES when the players are taking steroids!
