  1. Sports Illustrated…

I couldn’t understand some parts of this article, but it sounds interesting…

  2. marc says:

yup – I’m with uncle joe – the point is moot, Barrett was blocking the plate without the ball.

  3. Hulka says:

Walt Jocketty out as Cardinals GM … another one who would be an improvement over Sabean.

more than rediculous, i dont want reyes anywhere near this team

i think randolf is a brilliant manager, but his one failing is allowing certain of his players to behave as if they are still playing hs ball

dont get me wrong, i like youthful exuberance….i even got a kick out of watching milledge go nuts and high fiving fans after smacking his first career dinger against us.

but reyes makes his bones by being a little bitch both on the bases and at the side of the duggout…and while mets fans were getting all jazzed at that when they were winning, and he was hitting….his antics become quickly tired on a team that is losing and he is slumpin.

and in the case of cain or lincecum…no straight up trade is acceptable. my god, you are talking about 2 possible future cy young winners

no sir….if a trade is even to be considered, it has to be for the farm

now if the mets want to offer reyes, milledge and a couple of their top arms from their aa club, and are willing to throw in free baseball etiquette lessons for both reyes and milledge…then maybe the giants would think about it.

sorry guys, but if you were watching the same feed as i, it is apparent that barrett never had control of the ball, and by the rules of baseball, if he doesnt have control, he cannot impede the runner’s progress

by blocking the plate without ball in glove in hand, he did indeed impede the runners progress and holliday was therefore safe based on obstruction

i understand why you are confused…the home plate ump was slow to call the play…but that is his style….same way he calls balls and strikes

ump got the play right….friars go home….and fuck hairston

    • Kent says:

I’m with you, no need for the “sorry guys.”

    • Robert says:

There was no conclusive photo evidence to prove he didn’t touch the plate, but that is a moot point as the catcher didn’t have control of the ball. All the folks claiming “He missed the plate” have missed the point.
It is reminiscent of the Bob Uecker commercial “He missed the tag!”

    • Dan says:

I interpreted the play based on the umps reaction, i.e., he hesitated not
because he has a habit of making delayed calls, but because he saw neither
obstruction nor the runner missing the plate and was waiting to see if the ball came loose, which was not immediately apparent to him because, as I recall,
he was blocked somewhat by the catcher.

  6. toni says:

He didn’t touch the plate and should have been ruled out. Reminded me a little of Eric Byrnes not touching the plate against Boston in some other epic collaspe during the post season. Of course Byrnes was ruled out.

    Yea, I’m bitter.

Anyway I saw something on a message board and was wondering what Gaints fans think. And I realize this is all just talk and message board blather, but I was actually curious: it was suggested Cain or Linecum for Jose Reyes. Would that be something you think the Giants would consider?

As an A’s fan I thought it was intriguing… maybe as a Giants fan it’s ridiculous.

    :-)

Too close to call and no replay in the world would’ve overturned the call at the plate. Dust, fingers, feet, shin guards, and colliding appendages made it a tough call to make in any case. What would a half-way decent throw by Giles have done? The camera moved to Holliday once the catch was made, but I caught a glimpse (I swear) of Giles not rushed in the slightest. It was almost like he didn’t expect Holliday to be running and just lobbed the ball in. He also didn’t have any momentum forward upon catching the ball. Yeah, it was hard hit, but still… Of course, the throw STILL almost got him, but man was that a critical mental gaffe by Giles.

I couldn’t believe that the 3b coach sent him. Hell, that he was even in and not pulled for one of the 97 bench players as a pinch runner surprised me a bit.

I’d personally prefer God’s Rockies in the playoffs to a beaten up and near Peavy-less Padres.

Hey Todd: Slide with your FEET next time. Jesus, you’re asking to hurt your hands (and chin) going in on your stomach.

Anyone else notice that Hairston’s a little baby?
