…. Done

Barry Bonds hit his 756th home run of his storied career moments ago. Interestingly enough, Hank Aaron, after seeming to be uninterested in congratulating Bonds during his chase, had a lot to say about Barry and his terrific career, the chase, and his respect for Barry’s accomplishment.

So much for all the talk about how Hank was dissing Barry as the chase wound down.

Here’s some of ESPN’s “experts” telling us what we should think about Bonds and the record. I’ll rip ‘em up in the morning.

Congratulations to Bonds.

I couldn’t understand some parts of this article, but it sounds interesting…

It’s important to look at this record in the larger context of the game, and while there are plenty of Bonds haters out there on the radio this morning, the fact is that everyone in baseball, starting with the commissioner and the head of the players’ union, knew that the players were juicing for years and years, and they turned a blind eye to it until they were forced to acknowledge it. To vilify Barry this way is ignorant and hypocritical, and everyone should be reminded that it wasn’t “Flinstones Vitamins” that saved baseball during Sosa and McGwire’s pursuit of Maris.

  4. Kent says:

Shit, Hank Aaron is a competitive HOFer. He doesn’t want ANYONE to break his record. I’m sure that he (like many) wonder and just don’t know what Barry did or didn’t do and what the effect was. Classy to see him on the video screen.

  5. I thought it was a classy move by Hank Aaron. I can certainly understand his reticence about actually being there, but the onscreen tribute was a humble and admirable act.

  6. SBG says:

If only the Commissioner had one tenth the good sense of Hank Aaron. I guess they didn’t teach good sense in used car sales school.

the si.com poll is horseshite….especially since they carry a story from that horseshite book on their front page

bonds was a first ballot hof back in 98

bonds sells tickets….no matter what those idiots in that poll say

and the fact that everyone is ignoring what aaron said tonite, makes this a country of racists

  8. Kent says:

All class by Barry and by the SF fans. I cheered here in Portland and so did my wife…and she’s a Red Sox fan. I’ve been very impressed by his demeanor over these last weeks and appreciate that he’s shown those willing to see that he is, after all, a human being.

Oh, and he just smacked Pedro Gomez down and it was great + Pedro’s been quite from that point on.

    Keep up the fight Barry.

  9. DonL says:

Go to SI.com and check out their survey on Bonds (and put in a vote or two). The anti-Barry bias is unreal.
