…. Thoughtless?

Two things today:

1. Magowan apparently wants Sabean to remain as GM. That’s not good news for those of us wishing for the team to go in a new direction.

2. The union has managed to insert itself into the middle of the George Mitchell investigation’s efforts to get it’s hands on the governments case files regards the recent steroids raids on the East Coast.

I’ll have more about both of these little tidbits in the morning. In the meantime, discuss amongst yourselves….

John, I think you misread the NY Times article. The Union is not trying to stop the Mitchell Investigation from getting access they are joining the Feds in trying to deny access to the press.

You linked to Page 2, which I read and back-tracked to Page 1 here.

Do you know of anybody who ever bought a ticket or flipped on a radio, tv or computer to watch these two moribund, gloomy, grouchy, pompous assholes perform? Five years of pious platitudes from Selig. Five years that each and every time somebody flips on a radio, or Sports Center, or even hears the name MLB, there is some reference to steroids. For two guys (Mitchell and Selig) who supposedly love the game of baseball, they have done an excellent job ensuring that the players (those troublesome cheating s.o.b.s that the fans actually want to see and hear) are kept in the public eye as public enemies of America’s children and denigrated daily for being such.

I find it infuriating that it was during Sandy Alderson’s reign as head of the Oakland A’s and his self-admitted “pioneering of new advanced sports conditioning techniques” during the 80s that guys like Carney Lansford, Jose Canseco, Mark Magwire, and others got immensely huge. That Dennis Eckersly and Dave Stewart started to dominate late in their careers not unlike Bonds. I don’t have a problem with that at all. My problem is that Sandy Alderson after the sale of the A’s was Selig’s right hand guy in the Commissioner’s office. And now Alderson is down running the Padres, and nobody is talking about that. Mitchell is on the Board of the Boston Red Sox. None of these guys seemed to have many scruples when it came time to reap $millions from the efforts of the players. But now that some media flunkies and a rogue prosecutor and a couple of corrupt ass congressmen have threatened their little fiefdom, they are running around like the wussy little weasels that they are.

And still, after five years. Not a thing on Bonds. Not one thing. Victor Conte: 4 months in jail and selling more “supplements” and wealthier than before he went to prison. Greg Anderson, soon to be millionaire compliments of BLB, Inc. next month when the Grand Jury goes out of business. A disgrace to the Federal Government and to Major League Baseball Inc., New York Post, Sports Illustrated, The Chronicle Publishing Company, ESPN, Fox Sports and various and sundry media personalities. All of these self-appointed guardians of the public interest and all that is “hallowed” and “sacred” about the National Pastime. A pox on their hand wringing over Henry Aaron as our “National Treasure”. None of it. All of them. They have accomplished not one thing other than to leave a permanent bad taste in everybody’s mouth. They have done nothing but expose themselves as phonies, totally unworthy of running a Mojave Desert Junkyard, much less MLB, Law Enforcement Agencies and the public airwaves. Fans of Bonds or not. Fans of baseball or not. Selig and the others have done way more to harm the image of the game than a 100 Barry Bonds, Mark Magwires, Ryan Franklins, Jason Grimsley’s or Jason Giambi’s ever could, by simply flogging the dead horse that they themselves killed.

The farce of the last 5 years is analogous to the Allies, following the German surrender, having Josef Goebbels and Hermann Goering prosecute German infantrymen for disobeying orders that were never given.

The qoute from the article below IMO is the part that escapes those in the media who were all for using the Constitution as a piece of toliet paper when BLB was the target. Now in the Grimsley and Radomski cases, where is the same media lynch mob?

These cases fade into the background quickly.

It doesn’t hurt that after Roger “The Great Pumpkin Head” Clemens name gets linked to wrongdoing via Grimsley, he goes Lance Armstrong and threatens legal action for loss of endorsements, etc. to anyone publishing anything that “damages” his good name.

from the article:
the players union argued that disclosure of the names “would inevitably place the individuals mentioned in an unfavorable light” and “irreversibly link them with criminal conduct, even if that link were contrary to other known facts.”

Where was this logic during the BALCO case?

I doubt we’ll see/hear those names released simply because they alomost have to include many current or ex Yankees and Mets. And I would bet a lot that many of them are popular, media savvy and not African American players.

Maybe Pujols trainer and Clemens/Pettite’s trainer should share the same living arrangements with Greg Anderson. Why did they skate away so easily? Doesn’t the federal government care about those who distribute PED’s in KC and NY or Tampa? Or is it just SF?

Magowan needs to be relieved of his duties as Managing General Partner.
His loyalty to Sabean makes him look like a babe in the big baseball
woods, like he doesn’t know anybody else in baseball qualified for the
job. He cannot admit that he made a mistake. Instead choosing to
pridefully shell out his group’s money for an endless stream of bad contracts.
Who should have gotten the GM job? I don’t know, how about Depodesta?
How about hiring Parate Maraate? Seiously, that Booz Allen guy did a
great job with the Niners.

Since it looks like Sabes is sticking around for now, we can
collectively suffer through all the trades he is not going to make. This shit
isn’t rocket science so here we go:
1. Morris and Kline to the Angels for Juan Rivera and Sean Rodriguez.
This would give us a real RF and good young SS.
2. Durham to the Mets for Pelfry
3. Molina and Roberts to the Cubs for Donald Veal.
4. Lowery, Pelfry, Freddy Lewis, and Veal to the Rangers for Texeira
finally giving us a real 1B.
5. Chulk, Hennessey, and Henry Soto to the Braves for Jarod
Saltalamacchia. Finally we get a blossoming stud C.

- the first three moves need to happen in the next few weeks; the
others could happen in the off season
- let all the untradeables: Feliz, Vizquel, etc play out the year and
let them walk/reitre
- sign ARod for $30 mil a year for 5 years. If we make the above moves,
we could afford this and even save money.
- let Misch, Taschner, Sadler, Wilson, Messenger, and Osiris Matos
fill out the bulpen. Maybe add a vet (maybe even from Japan)

For 2008 we field a team of :
Winn cf
Frandsen 2b
Texiera 1b
ARod 3b
Rivera rf
Salty c
Schierholtz lf
SRod ss

Zito
Cain
Lincecum
Sanchez
Ortiz

God work is boring….
